Unit Editions and the Design Museum are set to host what promises to be an amazingly invaluable day of talks and Q&A on Friday, July 13. This is the same day that you FT'ers in the UK finish up, though the event is on until 8pm so there's no real reason you couldn't (nay, shouldn't!) go along. The event itself will feature some of the UK's leading design studios, including Spin, Biblioteque and Build, and is a truly golden opportunity to ask designers from these studios all about life within an agency — specifically, theirs.
From the site:
You will get a unique glimpse into the inner workings of their studios; what they look for in potential employees; advice on how to approach studios; what to expect when you get a placement or a job; and how to present your work.
For working designers with an itch to start their own studio, this is a chance to find out how leading designers develop a successful studio culture. It's a unique opportunity to ask such questions as: how to set up a studio; how to keep clients happy; how to get new ones; how to deal with finances; and how to develop a studio philosophy – even a music policy.
To all you current and recent grads, in fact, to any of the extended Shillington community: I think you'd be absolutely mad to miss this one!
