The very talented people over at Sitepoint have launched a major update to their site this week. Revamping the whole design with a site that works beautifully across multiple devices. The design is clean and considered, with a strong use of colour to break up content across their many topic areas.
The typography is crisp and legible. Noto Sans is an excellent choice of typeface on screen and makes for really comfortable reading. I also really like the use of icons identifying each topic section, which is also tied into their colour system.
Most importantly the new site is Responsive which is a must for such an influencial site. I'm sure its been something that's been bugging them for ages with the old site, but a thing like this needs to be done right from the start rathern than slapped into shape with short term plans.
If you're not familiar with Sitepoint do yourself a favour and check out the wealth of content on offer. I've been reading their books, tutorials and blog posts for ages & think its one of the better resources for leaning about anything web related there is at the moment.
Fernando Tinoco, Editor-in-chief at Sitepoint, has written a great post on the brand new design which will give you a good overview of the updates made and the thinking behind them.
Nice work Sitepoint!
