We all know and love Semi-Permanent, but it's not the only great design event out there. There are some excellent creative conferences happening that might have passed you by - until now! Check out our go-to events below.

Field Trip

Ever been to a creative conference, listened to a great speaker talk about their life's work, but wish they could explain in more details how on earth they'd come up with something so brilliant? Field Trip tries to answer that feeling. A collaboration between the Jacky Winter Group and Australian Infront, Field Trip features six industry professionals who, just like in a live cooking show, take you through their recipe for success, sharing their creative process from start to finish. It hits Sydney this year on Tuesday 27th August.

CreativeMornings

A series of inspirational breakfast-time talks dreamt up by Tina Roth Eisenberg, aka Swiss Miss (who's also the founder of other super successful side-projects TeuxDeux and Tattly). CM has just celebrated its first birthday, and the best part is that this lecture series is completely free. If you haven't had the chance yet to get along to one, there are video recordings of the presentations. Check out their site for upcoming talks.

Vivid

It's not all about seeing how they light up the Opera House - Vivid is the chance to share some great creative ideas. Last week Irish artist David Shrigley talked through his creative process; the week before &company sponsored a series of industry talks called "Design Your Day Job". We personally like the sound of Freelance Fridays, a chance for all your isolated freelancers out there to pop on down to the MCA to meet other like-minded creatives to wind down after your week working alone. Vivid comes to a close next Monday, 10 June.

Essential Titles

The Sydney Film Festival is the perfect opportunity to gawk at the very best title sequences in cinema history. (Our personal favourites are Robert Brownjohn's projected type in From Russia With Love, and the incredible shadow-puppet illustration end credits to Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events.) From Thursday 6th June until Friday 14th June the Sydney Film Festival Hub will be showing a video installation by Canadian artist Barr Gilmore, which remixes 100 famous titles sequences.

Heading down to Melbourne soon? See what Creative Women's Circle have coming up; their conversations with industry leaders are always fascinating. Sex Drugs and Helvetica, the one-day talk created by the founder of Positive Posters, Nick Hallam, will be happening in August.

If you happen to be flying up to the Sunshine State this September, Typism is a new Brisbane-based conference celebrating the best typographers in Australia right now. But don't forget the two awesome conferences that happened in Brissie earlier this year - Analogue/Digital and Responsive Projects gathered a bunch of talented creatives together to talk about design's role in society. Keep those two in mind for next year.
