To aid in your photoshop fun it's worth looking at Debut Art — representing some of the UKs best illustration talents (and with offices in Edinburgh, Paris and New York, the talent is pretty much coming from all over!). If you are represented by these guys, then you've made it! (Thanks for the tip, Jo!)

Here you will find every illustrative technique going — the use of hand drawn, photoshop and vector.

Remember in the real world you may not actually illustrate yourself, you may in fact commission an illustrator. So when you see work you like, bookmark it (I can't tell you how many days I've wasted trying to track down an illustrator on the internet when I cant remember their name!)

Another couple of good sites to check out for illustration inspiration:

illustratorsaustralia.com

jackywinter.com

peepshow.org.uk

heartagency.com

As you're looking through these sites, bear in mind you are looking for inspiration — and not stuff to rip off. Identifying techniques, how they assist with a design and how you might evolve and develop your own style through this inspiration is what is going to make you and your work unique.

Thanks for this, Peter. It's a very worthwhile link. (And I assure you I've got into good practice with my lasso tool.)
